I'm the Founder of Perio-Nutrition,

Dental Hygienist & Nutritionist

I qualified as a dental hygienist from Birmingham Dental Hospital in 1981 and have more than forty years experience in treating periodontal disease and helping patients achieve better oral health.

I have training in the field of complementary medicine, studying nutrition with Patrick Holford at the Institute for Optimum Nutrition.

I have also studied implant maintenance and therapy at academies in Geneva, Liechtenstein and the USA and was the first elected DCP Member to the Association of Dental Implantology (ADI). I am also an ADIA Certified Implant Auxiliary in addition to being the honorary secretary of the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy and part of the BSDHT Education Committee.

I write regularly for the international dental press and I am also an editorial advisor to a number of dental journals.

I have written and lectured internationally over the last twenty years on the systemic associations between nutrition and oral health and regularly present post graduate seminars around the country.

I am passionate about helping patients achieve systemic and oral health and set up Perio-Nutrition in 2010 to provide a reliable source of evidence based recommendations in the use of nutrition as an adjunctive therapy in the treatment of oral diseases.

Dr Nigel Carter OBE BDS LDS (RCS).

Nigel Carter is Chief Executive of the British Dental Health Foundation. He has been involved with the Foundation for over 20 years. As a general dental practitioner and experienced media advisor and broadcaster, Nigel appears regularly on TV and radio. Nigel has been involved in training the dental profession and acts as an editorial advisor to a number of publications and health education organisations.

Professor Iain Chapple PhD, BDS, FDSRCPS, FDSRCS, CCST (Rest Dent)

Senior Lecturer in Periodontology and Consultant in Restorative Dentistry,

Birmingham University School of Dentistry

Professor Chapple leads a research team active in investigating the pathobiology of periodontal diseases and is actively developing and evaluating enhanced chemiluminescent assays for analysing crevicular fluid alkaline phosphatase (ALP) as a label for markers of disease in the periodontal tissues. Studies are also underway to analyse the role of free radical damage and antioxidant defence mechanisms within oral fluids and also at the cellular level.

Iain is also the clinical lead for a large regional specialist periodontal care service and heads the academic teaching program at Birmingham in Periodontology.
